Cheerleading & Acrobatics
Cheerleading is an activity in which participants, called "cheerleaders," encourage the sports team they support through various actions ranging from simple slogans to highly physical choreography. Cheerleaders also participate in various competitions, the events of which generally last from one to three minutes and take place in five disciplines: chants (or cheers), tumbling, jumps, stunts, and dance. Now recognized as a sport, it requires a great deal of physical and mental preparation.
DanceSport is an activity that combines sport and dance, allowing participants to improve their physical abilities and mental well-being, build social relationships, and achieve competitive results at all levels. Competitive DanceSport is practiced in a wide variety of dance styles and forms. DanceSport encompasses international Latin and Standard styles, as well as American Smooth and American Rhythm. It also includes rock and roll, boogie-woogie, breakdancing, disco, and hip-hop. The term sometimes also includes wheelchair dance, salsa, acrobatic rock, modern dance, contemporary dance, and jazz dance.
